Dr. Martin Kussmann

Dr. Martin Kussmann is a seasoned scientist and research manager in sustainable nutrition for human and planetary health, active across the bio-, food- and health technology space. He is passionate about working with smart and innovative people and teaching the next generation.

Dr. Kussmann is Head of Science at the Competence Center for Nutrition (KErn), an institute within the Bavarian Research Organisation for Agriculture (LfL), where he contributes to integrated solutions for a healthier and more sustainable food system in Bavaria. He is also Founder and CEO of Kussmann Biotech GmbH, a biotechnology consulting firm focused on health, nutrition and sustainability.

Trained as a biochemist, Dr. Kussmann has built a 30-year dual corporate and academic career spanning nutrition, pharma and biotechnology. He has held professorships at EPF Lausanne, Aarhus University and Auckland University, co-created four research units, led three scientific institutions, and is credited with more than 200 publications.

Through his work, he brings together scientific expertise, innovation and a commitment to creating healthier and more sustainable food systems for people and the planet.
