Dr. Michael Crandall
CEO, Digital Beachhead
Dr. Michael Crandall is a cybersecurity leader, military veteran, and founder and CEO of Digital Beachhead, a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing cybersecurity consulting and assessment services. His career spans military service, government contracting, cybersecurity strategy, and organizational leadership, with a longstanding focus on protecting critical information systems and helping organizations strengthen their security posture.
Dr. Crandall began his career in the United States Air Force, serving for 12 years in Europe and contributing to the design, security, and management of emerging network technologies. As part of a pioneering team, he helped develop the USAF “Barrier Reef” defense-in-depth concept, which introduced the use of demilitarized zones within network environments. The approach was subsequently adopted across the United States Air Force and later more broadly within the Department of Defense.
Following his military career, Dr. Crandall moved into government contracting, serving as Director of Operations for an organization where he was responsible for more than $300 million in contracts and teams operating across multiple locations worldwide. He later founded Digital Beachhead, bringing together his experience in cybersecurity, technology, military operations, and business leadership.
Today, Digital Beachhead works with organizations navigating increasingly complex cybersecurity and compliance requirements and is an Authorized Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO), providing CMMC assessments to organizations within the Defense Industrial Base.
Dr. Crandall holds an MBA in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University and a Doctor of Business Administration from the Atlanta College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Through his writing and professional work, he aims to make cybersecurity, risk, compliance, and emerging technology more understandable and actionable for business leaders, while encouraging organizations to view cybersecurity not simply as a technical requirement, but as an essential part of resilience, trust, and responsible leadership.
